Helen V. Newby, 100, of Farina and formerly of Louisville, passed away at 6:40 pm on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Lakeland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

Helen was born on January 31, 1919 in Bement, Illinois the daughter of the late Charles and Lena (Rinehart) Headlee. She married James Edward Newby on February 8, 1936 and he preceded her in death on June 28, 1997.

Mrs. Newby was a member of Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. Later, she was a member of Louisville Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing and liked to watch St. Louis Cardinal baseball. She was famous for her pies and cobblers. Her family was her greatest love and she cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Stanley “Ed” (Dorisann) Newby of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, a daughter, Brenda Schmeiderer of Farina, a daughter-in-law, Kay Newby of Louisville, a son-in-law, Richard Schmeiderer of Salem, a sister, Kate Milosevich of New Port Richey, Florida, eight grandchildren, James D. “Jim” Newby, Justin (Jodi) Newby, Jay (Linda) Newby, Kelly (David) Seng, Michelle (Todd) Carroll, Michael (Jessica) Newby, Christian (Scott) Becker and Courtney (Jon) Lotz, nineteen great grandchildren and eight great- great grandchildren and by several nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a son, James Larry Newby, a brother, Harold Headlee and by a sister, Hope Shehorn, and two great grandsons.

Funeral services honoring the life of Helen will be conducted at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the Louisville Baptist Church in Louisville. Bro. Kelly Carruthers will officiate. Interment will follow at Orchard Hill Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation will be held on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on May 20, 2019 at the Triplett & Neal Funeral Home in Louisville.
